Jhomolhari Trek - 11 Days

Bhutan, a country that had been isolated from the outside world for years to preserve its heritage has recently given access to foreigners to come explore their mysterious kingdom and its many adventures and thrills.

Starting from Paro, this trail goes into northern Bhutan to the land of yak-herders and to the base of Mount Jhomolhari (7,316 meters / 24,000 feet), the most holy mountain for the Bhutanese. From there the trek goes on to remote Lingshi Dzong that once guarded the frontier with Tibet. This trek offers fabulous views of the mountains including Jhomolhari, Jitchu Draake and Tsheringkhang along with stunning Himalayan scenery and exceptional flora as you encounter many yak-herders and their camps along the way. The maximum altitude gained is 4,900 meters (16,000 feet).

*Currently, there is a construction taking place on this route. Hence, this trek is not recommended until further notice.

  • At Paro visit the museums and dzongs.

  • Trek through gentle slopes with well-maintained rice terraces and fields of millet, orchards and oak, spruce, rhododendron and alpine forests.

  • Cross rivers and view the magnificent panoramic mountain peaks.

  • Enjoy lunch at a Yak herder’s camp.

  • Walk past many chortens and Dzongs.

  • Visit the famous “Tiger’s Nest Monastery”, perched on the side of a vertical cliff at 3000 m.
